Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam unit of Congress, on Monday alleged that the investigation into the case of singer Zubin Garg is being ‘deliberately delayed’, while Chief Minister Himant Vishwa Sharma’s role in all of them is ‘extremely suspicious’. The Congress leader claimed that it seems that an attempt is being made to divert the investigation in the other direction and the accused are being given time to erase evidence as they are ‘close to BJP’.
Target on Chief Minister
Addressing the press conference, Gogoi said, “People had high expectations from the Chief Minister in getting justice to the singer, but from his recent statements, it seems that he is trying to hide the facts and save two main accused.” He also mentioned Shyamakanu Mahant, organizer of ‘North East India Festival’ and Siddharth Sharma, manager of Zubin Garg. Garg died of drowning while floating in the sea in Singapore on 19 September, where he went to perform at a celebration.
Death died in Singapore
Gogoi alleged that it seems that either the Chief Minister is not bringing the facts, or he is ‘disabled’. He said that ten days have passed for Garg’s death and ‘We still do not know where Siddharth Sharma and Shyamakanu Mahant are. The state president claimed, “It seems that the investigation is being tried to divert the investigation in the other direction and people are asking why both the Chief Minister, Mahant and Sharma are behaving like VIP (very special person), while both of them can give information about Jubin’s death.” He asked, ‘Are both the accused so big VIPs that the people of Assam will have to wait for their arrival and make statements till the end of Durga Puja festival?’
Lukout notice information
Sharma said on 27 September that ‘lookout notice’ has been issued against both of them through Interpol, in which they have been asked to come to Guwahati on October 6 and the police will intensify their search if they do not do so. The Congress MP insisted that the police have not been able to take a single statement from Mahant or Sharma and cannot become an excuse for those who apply Durga Puja law.
Claim of close to BJP
Gogoi alleged that instead of asking the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CID to conduct quick investigation, they are trying to slow down. He said, ‘The reason for this may be close to both the accused with the BJP. It has already been reported in the media that Sharma is a member of the party’s cultural cell.
Accused of political conspiracy
Gogoi alleged that it was found that the organizer of the festival was closely associated with the senior leaders of the BJP’s Jorhat unit and ‘the conspiracy to use Zubin for his political interests was hatched long ago’.
