A high-level inquiry committee constituted by the Government of India has recommended legal action against an unidentified person after investigating the activities of some organized criminal groups and terrorist organizations. That person is accused of harming the security interests of both India and America. This investigation was ordered after America made allegations. In this, it was said that Indian agents were plotting the murder of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu in New York in the year 2023.
In connection with this conspiracy, America had mentioned the name of a person named Vikas Yadav, who was said to be a former spy of the Indian intelligence agency RAW. He has dual citizenship of America and Canada. In a statement on Wednesday, the Home Ministry said that after a lengthy investigation, the committee has recommended legal action against an individual.
His criminal background has also come to light during the investigation. However, the Home Ministry’s statement did not mention the name of any person against whom action has been initiated. The Home Ministry said that information given by US officials about the activities of some organized criminal groups, terrorist organizations and drug smugglers etc. was received.
This had weakened the security interests of both India and America. A high-level inquiry committee was constituted by the Government of India in November 2023. A statement said, “After a long investigation, the committee has submitted its report to the government. Legal action has been recommended against an individual. His previous criminal background has also come to light.”
Along with this, the committee has also recommended that legal action against the accused person should be completed expeditiously. It said, “The committee has recommended functional improvements in the systems and processes. It has also been called upon to take steps that can strengthen India’s response capability by ensuring coordinated action in dealing with such cases.” “
Announcing the formation of this committee, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that it will look into all the relevant aspects of the matter (security concerns raised by the US). America had said that it had foiled a plot to murder a Sikh separatist. India has been given a strong warning regarding concerns over New Delhi’s alleged involvement.
America had said that it is taking the conspiracy very seriously. This issue has been raised at a large level with the Government of India. White House spokeswoman Adrienne Watson had said that when Indian officials were informed about the incident, they expressed surprise. Watson said that India told him that such activity is not their policy.
In December 2023, Vikas Yadav was arrested by Delhi Police in the kidnapping and extortion case registered against him. He is currently on bail in this case. Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta was arrested in Prague in 2023 in a case related to the attempt to murder Pannu and was later extradited to America.
