Now after the prelims exam, UPSC will release ‘Provisional Answer-Ki’, results will be published only after disposal of objections

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has made a big change in its examination process. The Commission has told the Supreme Court that now it will publish its answer key i.e. answer key soon after the prelims examination of the Civil Services. UPSC has given this important information in the affidavit filed in the ‘Himanshu Kumar vs Government of India’ in the Supreme Court.

In 2024, 17 UPSC candidates including Himanshu Kumar and Vidushi Pandey filed this petition. The petitioners had accused the Commission that it does not make public the answer key, cut off marks and candidates obtained immediately after the Civil Services Prelims Examination. All these things are given after the entire examination process is over.

UPSC filed an affidavit and said about change

In the petition, this policy was described as a violation of the principles of injustice and transparency with the candidates. The petitioners had said that this system of UPSC is going to keep millions of candidates in darkness. Due to non -release of the answer key and cut off time, candidates do not know on what basis they were evaluated. With this, he loses the opportunity to register an objection to any deficiency in the evaluation.

The bench of Supreme Court Justice PS Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi is listening to the matter. The court has appointed senior advocate Jaideep Gupta as Amicus Curie for his assistance. Amicus also justified the petitioners. After this, now UPSC has filed an affidavit and said about a change in the examination process.

According to UPSC affidavit

1. Provisional Answer will be published after the prelims examination is conducted.

2. Candidates can file their objection to an answer, citing 3 authentic sources.

3. The objections which will enter without referring to the source, will be rejected in the initial stage itself.

4. The experts of the Commission will decide whether the source submitted by the candidate is official or not.

5. The answers fixed by the team of experts of the subject will form the basis of the announcement of the result of prelims examination.

6. Final answer key will be published after the result of the examination is declared.

Commission’s appeal to Supreme Court

The Commission has said that it wants to start the new functioning as soon as possible. The commission believes that this move will be effectively redressed by the complaints raised in the petition. The case is to be heard soon in the Supreme Court. The commission has requested the court to settle the case on the basis of this affidavit.
