The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday (October 4, 2025) regarding the release of water from two reservoirs of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). Patil’s claim was denied and alleged that the central government is deliberately plotting to destabilize West Bengal during the festive season.
Patil said in a post on the social media platform X that the Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee (DVRRC) has been authorized to guide the DVC regarding release of water from Maithon and Panchet reservoirs. He said that the DVRRC Secretariat had sought opinion from the Directorate of West Bengal Irrigation and Waterways before releasing water, but no response was received from the state government.
Union Minister claims about the case
The Union Minister claimed, ‘According to the factual information given by the DVRRC Secretariat, 70,000 cusecs of water has been released in total. Out of this, 42,500 cusecs have been released from Maithon Dam and 27,500 cusecs from Panchet Dam, not 1,50,000 cusecs, as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted.
TMC spokesperson retaliated
Reacting to this, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh deliberately accused the Center of working against the interests of West Bengal. Ghosh said, ‘The center policy of discrimination and conspiracy with West Bengal has been revealed again, as our leaders Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee have said.’
He said, ‘Despite the repeated requests of the state, central agencies like DVC are releasing water without any prior notice. They are not even able to clean the reservoirs and river floors, due to which the water level is exceeding capacity.
TMC The president of the student union accused of defaming the state government
Trinenkur Bhattacharya, president of the Trinamool Congress Students Union, claimed that the BJP -led central government is working with the intention of defaming the state government before next year’s assembly elections. He said, ‘As our chief Mamata Banerjee and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee have said, DVC is not paying attention to the concerns of the state and is repeatedly repeating the same work. This is the same as discrimination being done by the Center along with West Bengal by depriving the central money.
The process prescribed before releasing water was followed- Union Minister
Union Minister CR Patil reiterated that DVRRC followed the prescribed process before releasing water. He said, ‘Before releasing water, the DVRRC Secretariat had sought views and comments from the Directorate of Irrigation and Waterways of the State Government. But no comment or information was found. According to the information available with the secretariat, there was no congestion in the lower Damodar region.
CM Mamta Banerjee accused central government
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday (October 2, 2025) accused the DVC of negligence and releasing water without any prior notice and strictly criticized it, describing it as a deliberate move to create flood -like situation in the districts of South Bengal during the Durga Puja festival. In a post on social media, Banerjee described the release of 65,000 cusecs of water on Vijay Dashami Thursday (October 2, 2025) as negligence and shameful and said that this has immediately threatened the lives of millions of people in Bengal. At the same time, in another post, he claimed that DVC released more than 1,50,000 cusecs of water till Friday evening.
He said, ‘Let me make it clear that I will not allow anyone to immerse Bengal. Every conspiracy against our people will be opposed with full force. There will be a victory of truth over trick and good over evil. Hail to mother Durga! ‘
