Amid violent unrest in Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK), the Congress described PoK on Saturday (October 04, 2025) as an integral part of India and condemned the ongoing ‘politics of oppression and repression’ there. Tariq Karra, president of the Congress’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, told reporters in Anantnag that the entire country is sympathetic with the people of POK.
Karra said, ‘Parliament has already passed the resolution that PoK is a part of India and our sympathy is with him. People there are being treated undemocratic. The Congress is against the politics of harassment and repression happening there. Pok is an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir and our entire sympathy is with the people there.
Congress is always supporting Palestine’s interests
In the last few days, at least 10 people have been killed and many others have been injured in the clashes between protesters and security forces in POK. The protesters are demanding the elimination of basic rights, justice and well -planned oppression.
In response to another question, Karra said that the party has always supported the interests of the people of Palestine. He said, ‘Indira Gandhi was the person who talked about the interests of Palestine. We have given full support to the people of Palestine and we will continue it.
Congress attack over the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk
When asked about the petition filed by his wife in the Supreme Court against the detaining of Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act, the State Congress President said that Wangchuk has fallen victim to the BJP’s ‘either my words, or suffer’ mentality.
He said, ‘Everyone has the right to go on any platform. The stand of the Congress party is clear. These are the same Wangchuk, who was introduced by the BJP as a nationalist while canceling Article 370 and 35-A. The BJP used him to appreciate the cancellation of Article 370 and praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress will raise the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament
Karra said, ‘His (Wangchuk’s) contribution at environment, education and social level was also appreciated earlier, but now he is being called anti-national. He has fallen victim to the BJP’s mindset of ‘listen or suffer’. The Congress leader said that the party will raise the issue of restoring the status of Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming session of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
