The manufacturing of Coldrif drug was taking place in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Now it has been banned in three states of the country (Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu).

The Tamil Nadu Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will write to the Tamil Nadu Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take strict steps against the CDSCO pharmaceutical company that controls medicines across the country.

3 deaths so far from other medicines in Rajasthan Apart from MP, one death has come to light in Bharatpur and Sikar due to drinking another Kapha syrup in Rajasthan. Initial investigation revealed the name of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide Syrup IP. This medicine prepares a private pharma company Casens Pharma. Here too, the cause of the death of children was told to fail kidney failure. The cause of the death of a child in Churu on Saturday is also being told to drink cuff syrup.

After this, the government came into action on Saturday. The Rajasthan government has banned all 19 types of medicines of Casans Pharma. The state’s drug controller Rajaram Sharma was suspended. Earlier, Sharma gave a clean chit to the company in the investigation.

Central government advisory, no cuff syrup under 2 years of age

The Union Health Ministry had issued a health advisory on 3 October saying that children below two years of age should not be given cough syrup (cough and cold medicines).

DGHS under the Ministry of Health said in advisory that children under 5 years of age should not be given phlegm syrup. If cuff syrup is given to older children with this, then they should be used carefully.

That is, the child who is being given medicine should be kept under strict supervision. He should be given appropriate dosage. Medication should be given for the least time. Cuff syrup should not be given with many medicines. Dr. Sunita Sharma of DGHS has issued this advisory.

48% poison in Coldrif Syup to be built in Tamil Nadu Coldrif Syrup (Batch Number SR-13) was seized from the unit of Srisan (SRSAN) pharmaceutical located in Sunguvarcharam in Kanchipuram district. Investigation revealed that it used non-pharmacopia grade propylene glycol, which was probably contaminated with Diathylene Glycol (DEG) and Ethylene Glycol. Both chemical kidneys are poisonous substances.

As soon as the samples were sent to the government drugs testing lab of Chennai, a report was given in 24 hours. It was found that this batch of Coldrif Syrup is 48.6% W/V deg is poisonous and ‘NOT of Standard Quality’. While the other four drugs (Respolite D, GL, ST and Hepsandin Syrup) were found standard quality.

Tamil Nadu government action after investigation report

  • The sale of cold syrup was immediately banned across the state.
  • Ordered all drug inspectors to freeze stock from wholesale and retail shops.
  • Officers from Odisha and Puducherry were also alerted.
  • The company was issued a stop production order.
  • A show-cose notice was also sent to cancel the manufacturing license.
