In front of the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple in Kerala, the vigilance team of the Travancore Board (TDB) from Bangalore businessman Unhirestan Potti, who sponsored the work of pouring the gold layer on the idols of the gatekeepers (patron deities), interrogated the second consecutive day in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (October 05, 2025). The officers provided this information.
As part of the vigilance investigation being carried out on the order of the Kerala High Court, the alleged irregularities in the work of putting gold layer on the idols in 2019 are being investigated. According to sources in TDB’s vigilance unit, Potty was questioned for about four hours at the TDB Vigilance Office at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday (October 04, 2025). He said that on Sunday, he was questioned again for about two hours to seek clarification on several other aspects in the case.
Businessman Unhikrishnan Potty refused to reply
According to officials, the investigators will soon file a report before the High Court, which will also include the statement of the potty. On coming out of TDB Vigilance Office, Potty refused to tell journalists in detail. He said, ‘It is not true that I am an accused standing in the dock in the case. The truth will be revealed today or later. Time should be given for this.
The weight of gold sent to the company reduced
It is worth noting that in 2019, when the copper sheets were removed to offer more gold at the Sabarimala temple, their weight was 42.8 kg. However, when these sheets were sent to the company working to mount gold layer, their weight was recorded at 38.2 kg. TDB and the state government have made allegations against potty in the case. However, Potty has denied allegations of involvement in any kind of disturbance in the case.
