In this way, 1.21 crore women associated with livelihood self-help groups will get 10-10 thousand rupees under ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Employment Scheme’. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that this scheme is an important step to make the women of Bihar financially empower and contribute to the prosperity of their families. Also, NDA can get benefit of this scheme in the upcoming Bihar elections. The NDA is looking at this scheme as its ‘Brahmastra’, which can mobilize the women’s vote bank in its favor.
What will be the effect of this scheme on Bihar elections?
Due to the last several elections in Bihar, the vote percentage of women has increased continuously and in 2020 elections, women voters played an important role in the NDA’s victory. Under the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Employment Scheme’, 1.21 crore women have got direct benefits, which is a very big vote bank. This has strengthened the image of Prime Minister Modi and Nitish Kumar among women. The NDA has started publicity of this scheme by deploying youth workers at the booth level.

On October 3, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar transferred 10-10 thousand rupees to the bank accounts of 25 lakh women under the second phase of the scheme. During this time, she appealed to the women beneficiaries that ‘elections are coming, pay attention to’, which shows their efforts to bow to women voters in favor of NDA. The Grand Alliance (RJD, Congress and the alliance of the Left parties) have also promised to provide a monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 to women under ‘My Bahn Mann Yojana’. But the immediate effect of NDA’s plan (1.21 crore women beneficiaries) makes her position strong.
Political analysts believe that the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Employment Scheme’ can prove to be a ‘game-changer’ in maintaining the NDA’s power despite the anti-incumbency in Bihar. Although RJD and Congress have described it as ‘the maneuver to buy votes’ before the election, but if the women are satisfied with the scheme, then the NDA can get a big benefit. Especially in rural areas where Jeevika Didis are active. The scheme can change the electoral equation by strengthening the NDA women empowerment image.
