Often, heart beats of some people increase in situations of anxiety or stress. They start feeling difficulty in breathing. Suffocation and restlessness are felt everywhere. Only people who are aware of mental problems are able to relate such symptoms to mental problems. Psychiatrists say that people believe that their mind is very strong, these symptoms may be due to blood pressure, lung problem, digestive problem or heart disease.
Be alert even if you have these symptoms
Senior psychiatrist Dr. Satyakant Trivedi says that anxiety patients do not just suspect heart disease. Rather, mental problems also give many other types of psycho somatic symptoms. Many people suddenly feel severe headache, stomach pain or muscle tension. Apart from fatigue and digestive problems, people feel skin irritation or any other problem. Actually all these symptoms are due to psycho somatic disorders. In case of extreme anxiety and stress, they also start showing physical symptoms.
Kept getting heart tests done, but no disease was found
Dr. Satyakant, who has written a book on overthinking, says that a person who came to me had the problem of anxiety. Every time he had a panic attack, he considered it a minor heart attack and got all heart related tests done. He had met four different cardiologists, but no heart disease was found behind his nervousness, fast heart beat and inability to breathe. With the help of one of his relatives, he took consultation in the psychiatry department.
Dr. Trivedi says that people suffering from anxiety also show symptoms like increased heartbeat, difficulty in breathing and changes in mental state like overthinking, sadness, restlessness. At the same time, psychiatrist Dr. Anil Shekhawat says that for those who do not know about the problem of anxiety at all, it is most difficult for them to differentiate between the problem in heart and mind. By answering questions on the symptoms of pain and restlessness in anxiety patients, psychiatrists can easily find out whether the said person is suffering from heart disease or is suffering from anxiety or depression.
This is how to differentiate between symptoms of heart disease and mental problems
Often people suffering from heart disease have problems like nervousness, chest pain, difficulty in breathing. These same symptoms are also seen in most people suffering from anxiety. Due to such symptoms, many people start getting checked for heart diseases. Dr. Puneet Aggarwal, cardiologist and associate professor at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, says that often heart disease and mental problems have similar symptoms, but the conditions are different in both.
Dr. Puneet Aggarwal says that people suffering from mental problems do not experience these symptoms while walking or working hard. This often happens to them while sitting idle or not working. At the same time, in case of heart diseases, if a person works hard or walks for a long time, then he feels this problem. In simple language, people suffering from mental problems like anxiety or depression mostly show these symptoms while sitting comfortably. The most important thing is that these symptoms also go away on their own. But heart patients do not get relief without taking medicine or rest.
