Unemployment in Bangladesh: In Bangladesh, a movement was started against the quota system in jobs on 7 July 2024. Due to this movement, there was a coup in Bangladesh and the government of Sheikh Hasina, which had been running for 16 years, fell. The situation there became so bad that Sheikh Hasina even had to flee and take refuge in India.
Hundreds of people died in this movement. At the same time, even after the coup in the country, the difficulties for the youth have not reduced. After six months, the condition of the unemployed in Bangladesh has worsened.
The movement was caused by unemployment
Unemployment was the main reason for last year’s protests in Bangladesh. After 6 months of this demonstration, the condition here is continuously worsening. News agency AFP has reported in its report that the dreams of the students who were part of this demonstration seem to be shattered. Dhaka University student Mohammad Rizwan Chowdhury, speaking to AFP, hit out at the caretaker government of Mohammad Yunus, saying it has taken very little steps for the youth.
He further said, “The government has not yet taken any meaningful initiative on this issue”. Mohammad Rizwan Chaudhary had participated in this movement last year. According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the number of unemployed in the country reached 26.6 lakh in September, which is 6 percent more than last year. This figure has now reached 24.9 lakh.
Bangladesh’s economic condition is getting worse
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) had also warned Bangladesh in September that the country’s economic activity was very slow. At the same time, inflation remains at double digit level. There has been a decline in tax income. At the same time, the pressure of expenditure is increasing. Mohammad Rizwan Chaudhary alleged that Mohammad Yunus has included student leaders in his cabinet, but he has ignored the demands of the students.
