A second case of sexual harassment has come to light in IIT Kanpur within a month and a half. Here, an engineer working in the cyber security project has filed a report at Kalyanpur police station, accusing the project manager of having a physical relationship by pretending to be married.
This report was filed two days ago and the victim’s medical examination was conducted on Wednesday. The police is investigating the entire case in a confidential manner. The accused has not been arrested yet.
Police gets the student medical, now a statement will be recorded in court
According to the information, a girl from North East is an engineer in a cyber security project in IIT Kanpur. The girl has alleged that her project manager Shubham Malaviya, originally from Indore, has been having a physical relationship with her for a year by pretending to be married. Now when he put pressure on marriage, he beat her up and threatened her. Hurt by this, he informed the IIT administration about the whole matter. Then gave a complaint to the Kalyanpur police station to file a report.
After the matter came to light, the IIT administration has also constituted a committee to investigate the entire matter. On the other hand, as soon as the complaint is received, Kalyanpur police has filed a report against the accused Shubham Malviya in the sections of sexual exploitation, threats and assault by pretending to marry.
In the case, DCP West Rajesh Kumar Singh said that a report has been filed in the case. On Wednesday, the student was given medical treatment. Now soon his magistrate statement will also be recorded.
Second case within a month and a half
It may be noted that this is the second case in IIT Kanpur within one and a half months. A research scholar of IIT filed a report of sexual abuse against ACP Mohsin on 12 December 2024 against ACP Mohsin at Kalyanpur police station. The police commissioner constituted an SIT to investigate the case. At present, the SIT is investigating the case. The investigation of one case was not even completed that the second case has come to light.
At present, the IIT-Kanpur administration has formed a six-member team to investigate the allegations against the engineer. The team has been instructed to submit the report to the IIT Director and action will be taken accordingly.
