A three -member judicial commission constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government reached Prayagraj on Friday to investigate the stampede at Mahakumbh on Mauni Amavasya. Members of the Commission visited the spot in Sangam Noj. This panel is chaired by Harsh Kumar, retired judge of the Allahabad High Court. This includes former Director General of Police (DGP) VK Gupta and retired IAS officer DK Singh.
An official said, “The members of the Judicial Commission have held a meeting with the administrative and police officers engaged in the fair. After this, he also visited the spot. The three members reached the Sangam Nose with the concerned officials, the stampede at the time of bathing Mauni Amavasya. During this time, he was accompanied by fair officer Vijay Kiran Anand, DIG Vaibhav Krishna and SSP Rajesh Dwivedi.
The panel visited the fair area amid heavy security of the Rapid Action Force. A circle was made with a rope for the members and officers of the commission. This panel was formed on Wednesday morning after a stampede in Sangam Nose, in which 30 devotees were killed. These devotees went to bathe on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. During this time, there was a stampede due to breaking the middle of the middle of 1 to 2 pm.
Judicial Commission chief Kumar said that he has a month’s time to complete his investigation, but he will try to complete his work fast. According to the police, the stampede occurred when the mob crossed the barricades and crushed the people waiting for their turn on the other side. The Judicial Commission visited at a time when millions of devotees have come to participate in Mahakumbh.
Let us tell you that after this incident, UP CM Yogi Adityanath had said that we are announcing the state government to provide financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the families of each deceased who lost their lives in the accident. The judicial commission will investigate the entire case and submit its report to the state government within a time limit. In this regard, the Chief Secretary and DGP will visit Prayagraj themselves.
CM Yogi had said that this incident is shocking. We express our deep condolences to all those families who have lost their loved ones. We are in constant contact with the administration since night. Fair Authority, police, administration, NDRF, SDRF and all other arrangements which could have been made have been deployed there. Yogi looked very emotional during this conversation.
