President Donald Trump is going to put tariffs on major American business partners including Canada, China and Mexico from the end of this week i.e. on Saturday. The White House confirmed this on Friday. White House Press Secretary Caroline Lewit told reporters in the briefing room that Trump will impose a 10 percent tariff on Mexico and Canada along with a 10 percent tariff on China.

This step is being taken against those countries who are promoting the problem of drugs in the US by allowing the supply and distribution of illegal phentanil (drug). Lewitt said, “25 percent tariff on Mexico, 25 percent tariff on Canada and 10 percent tariff on China for illegal fentinyl sent to our country, which has killed 1 million Americans.”
Levitt also dismissed tariff reports from 1 March, as some media outlets claimed. He said that these reports are wrong and Trump is planning to impose tariffs on countries from February 1. He said, “These are the promises made by the President and the promises made.”
Promised to impose 60 percent tariff on China
Trump has been saying that he will implement his threat to put tariffs on imported products coming from Canada and Mexico from 1 February. During the election campaign, Trump had talked about imposing up to 60 percent tariffs on products made in China. However, on the first day of his tenure, he did not take any immediate action on this, but ordered his administrative team to conduct a thorough study on the matter.
