In Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, the police have taken a unique initiative and decided to close the history sheet of the accused of 70 years and above. The purpose of this action taken under ‘Operation Kavach’ is to provide relief to the elderly accused who have not committed any crime for the past several years.
According to the agency, in this review led by the Superintendent of Police, it was found that there are more than 123 such accused in the district who have been away from crime at this stage of age. The police, giving these elders a chance to return to the mainstream of the society, not only closed their history sheet, but also freed them from attending the police station.
According to a statement issued by the SP, a total of 2,200 history sheeters were thoroughly investigated in the district. It was revealed that 123 of these accused are 70 years or older, while 24 accused are more than 80 years and more than two 90 years of age. There were many of them who had not committed any crime for the last 10, 20 or 30 years.

Keeping these facts in mind, the SP called these elders to the police office and announced the closure of their history sheet. He also assured that from now on, he will not have to attend the police station regularly. During the meeting, these elders took an oath not to commit any crime in future.
On this occasion, the SP said that this is not just an attempt to reduce crime, but is also an initiative to re -respect these elders in the society and improve their lives. This step is also an attempt to strengthen law and order as well as to increase confidence between the police and the public. Through this human initiative, old accused are being given a chance to improve, so that they can lead a normal life in the society.
