Delhi anti-sikh riots: A Delhi court on Friday postponed its verdict in the 1984 anti -Sikh riots murder case against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar till February 12. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja postponed the decision.
In fact, the prosecution sought time to present further arguments at some points. After this, the court postponed the verdict in January. This case is related to the killing of two persons in Saraswati Vihar, Delhi during the 1984 anti -Sikh riots.
Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh were killed on 1 November 1984. The court has reserved the verdict after hearing the final arguments in the concerned case. Although the Punjabi Bagh police station had initially registered a case, but then a special investigation team took the investigation into its hand.
On 16 December 2021, the court framed charges against Kumar and found a prima facie case against him. According to the prosecution, a large crowd armed with deadly weapons attacked and destroyed the assets of Sikhs to avenge former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination.
The prosecution alleged that the mob had attacked the house of the complainant Jaswant’s wife. Her husband and son were murdered and looted the goods. After this, his house was set on fire.
In prosecution of Sajjan Kumar, the court order found sufficient material to form a prima facie that he was not only a partner, but also led the crowd.
