Ed attached anubrata mondal bank account: Anubrata Mandal, former district head of Trinamool Congress (TMC) of Birbhum, who came into the limelight for the cattle smuggling case, is once again in the discussion. The ED has attached 36 accounts related to Anubrata Mandal, who came out of jail in September 2024, after getting bail in cases registered by both CBI and ED.
On Friday (February 07, 2025), the ED temporarily attached 36 bank accounts registered in the name of Anubrata Mandal, their family members, their affiliated firms and companies and benamidars under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2002. According to the agency, the accounts jointly deposited Rs 25.86 crore, causing the total assets attached to the case to Rs 51.13 crore.
ED started investigation from CBI FIR
Mandal was first arrested by the CBI in August 2022 for alleged involvement in the network of cattle smuggling between India and Bangladesh. Later, in November 2022, the ED arrested and took him to Delhi. The ED’s money laundering investigation started from the CBI FIR against Border Security Force (BSF) former Commandant Satish Kumar, Kingpin Inamul Haque and others.
What did ED accuse Anubrata?
Anubrat’s daughter Sukanya Mandal was also arrested by the ED in April 2023, after which she was granted bail by a Delhi court in September 2024. Allegedly, the ED has taken advantage of the administration in Birbhum and the surrounding districts and accused the administration to get more than Rs 48 crore in exchange for providing protection to the cattle smuggling syndicate.
The agency further claimed that Mandal maintained a close contact with him through the bodyguard Sehgal Hussain. Allegedly, Anubrata looted illegal earnings from his family members, colleagues, local traders and benami property holders through several bank accounts and returned the money to him through different banking channels allegedly.
He was granted bail in the CBI case on 30 July 2024 by the Supreme Court, while Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court sanctioned his bail on 20 September 2024 for filling a bond of Rs 10 lakh with several conditions in the ED case.
