The results of the assembly elections have come in Delhi and this time after 27 years, the lotus is fed in the capital. The BJP has won this election with a strong majority and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has been reduced to just 22 seats. In Delhi with 70 assembly seats, BJP has won 48 seats. At the same time, the Congress failed to open an account in Delhi for the third consecutive time. The Congress, led by Sheela Dixit for three consecutive terms before the rise of AAP, has longed for one seat from the last 3 elections.
The slogan of ‘Change will remain …’
This time the BJP contested the election with the slogan of ‘Change will remain Delhi’ and it is clear from the results that the saffron party has succeeded in its mission. In the 2020 assembly elections, the BJP, which was confined in only 8 seats, gained 40 seats this time and has easily crossed the majority figure (36). In the assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held four rallies on behalf of BJP. Apart from this, Home Minister Amit Shah participated in about 18 election programs. Apart from all the Union Ministers, Yogi Adityanath, CM of several BJP -ruled states including Yogi Adityanath, Devendra Fadnavis, camped in Delhi and played an important role in ensuring their party’s victory.

Talking about vote share in Delhi this time, BJP has got about 46 percent of the votes while the Aam Aadmi Party has been successful in getting about 44 percent of the votes. This difference in vote share may be of two per cent but creates a difference of 26 seats in the case of seats. The Congress is the third largest party with 6.40 vote share in Delhi, but it has got zero in terms of seats. The Congress has not won a single seat in Delhi for the third consecutive time 2015, 2020 and 2025. Along with the Congress, no seats went to the account of any small party or independent. Clearly, most of the voters of Delhi have voted for only one of the BJP or AAP.
AAP’s top leadership fails
This victory is special for the BJP because the party is returning to power in Delhi after nearly three decades. Earlier in 1993, the BJP government led by Madanlal Khurana was formed, but since then the BJP was continuously struggling to gain power in Delhi. Meanwhile, BJP won the Lok Sabha elections of 1999, 2014, 2019 and 2024. Even in the last three Lok Sabha elections continuously holding the power of the Center under the leadership of Narendra Modi, despite this, the dream of making the BJP its Chief Minister in the capital was still incomplete, which is now being fulfilled.

Apart from the anti -incumbency wave in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party had to bear the brunt of corruption allegations against the top leaders of the party. This was the reason that all senior leaders like former CM Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Satyendra Jain, Somnath Bharti lost the election. Only in the current Chief Minister Atishi Kalkaji, BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri has been successful in saving her seat. Reacting to the defeat, Kejriwal said that the AAP is ready to play the role of a positive opposition in the assembly. He hoped that the BJP will live up to fulfilling the promises made to the people of Delhi.
Congress imposed a hat -trick of zero!
On the other hand, the Congress had contested this time with full force in Delhi and for this reason former CM Sheila Dixit’s son Sandeep Dixit was fielded against Kejriwal from New Delhi Assembly seat. But BJP’s Pravesh Verma has defeated Sandeep Dixit from this seat along with the current MLA Arvind Kejriwal. With this big victory, Pravesh Verma’s claim for the post of Chief Minister has become stronger. However, he says that the BJP will decide its top leadership. Despite putting full emphasis, the Congress has been completely clear from Delhi for the third consecutive time.
