The body of a B-tech third year student from Nepal was found in the hostel of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha.
A case of suspected death of a Nepali student has come to light in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. Odisha police say that the body of a B-Tech Third Year was found on Sunday evening at the hostel of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar.
According to the police, Nepal’s nature was allegedly committed by a student named Lamsal. Students of Nepal staged a protest against the university administration on campus against the incident. The students allege that an Indian student of the student’s batch was harassing her.
Nepali students say that despite the complaints, the university did not take action against the accused, after which the student committed suicide. On the complaint of the student’s cousin, the police have detained the accused Indian student and sealed the student’s room.
DCP Pinak Mishra of Bhubaneswar said that the police have registered a case on a student for abetment for suicide. The accused student is in police custody and is being questioned. Police seized mobile phones, laptops and other gadgets of the deceased student. Are investigating the case.

Another student Rajan Gupta told that we were demonstrating. The university staff came and asked to vacate the hostel. Those who were not packing the goods quickly were killed. We were forced to forcefully vacate the hostel. After filling two buses, we were removed at Cuttack railway station.
According to news agency PTI, around 500 students were forced to return home to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack railway stations. A student at Cuttack railway station said- We were asked to vacate the hostel room and were released at the railway station. We have to take the exam on February 28.

University said- Students return, start studies Following the protests of Nepali students, the university administration had allegedly ordered the students to vacate the campus by 17 February 2025 as tension increased. The university administration had said that this step was taken in view of the increasing tension.
An official said, “This decision was taken to ensure the safety of the students and restore peace in the premises. However, now the administration has appealed to the students to return the campus and resume their studies. Police has also been deployed for the safety of students.
Apart from Nepal students outside Kiit University, some local students also performed.
Indian Embassy said- necessary steps are being taken According to Nepal’s English newspaper Kathmandu Post, a group of Nepali students protested against the incident outside the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. According to PTI, the Indian Embassy issued a statement on the incident saying that it is saddened by the death of a Nepali student. We are in touch with the University and the Government of Odisha. All necessary steps are being taken.
Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Dutta Singh said, “On the basis of initial investigation, it has been revealed that there was some torture, which may have taken this step. We detained the accused and questioned the situation. Police forces have now been deployed in the university to control.
