Supreme Court Angry on Postponed Matter Request Taking Senior Advocate Name Harish Salve

The Supreme Court has objected to the request to postpone a case on Wednesday (February 19, 2025). Requesting to postpone the hearing, it was argued that senior advocates would argue in this case. The court reprimanded the lawyer and said that the matter will not be postponed by taking the name of senior advocate.

A bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan reprimanded the lawyer who requested to postpone the case related to a commercial dispute. The lawyer requested the court to postpone the case for four weeks and said that Senior Advocate Harish Salve would debate the matter.

The lawyer said that Harish Salve is abroad and after returning, he will argue himself in the case. The bench objected to this and said, ‘Do you think if you name a senior lawyer, we will postpone the case? This trend of lawyers should stop. We will not postpone the case just because you have named a senior lawyer.

When the matter later came for hearing, the court said that it wants to remove the notion that she can postpone the case after taking the name of the senior advocate. However, the court accepted the request and postponed the hearing.

In January, the Supreme Court reprimanded a lawyer to address the court by sitting in a car and emphasized the importance of maintaining the dignity of legal proceedings.
