Chhaava Film Controversy – Controversy over ‘Chhava’

Vicky Kaushal’s film ‘Chhava’, which is making a big controversy, has sparked a big controversy in theaters. This film, built on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has been accused of ‘showing wrong history’. Many groups in Maharashtra are opposing the film with this allegation. The controversy has reached such a warning that a defamation suit of Rs 100 crore has been warned against ‘Chhava’. The film’s director Laxman Utekar has also apologized in this matter. Let us tell you how this dispute happened.

‘Chhava’ accused of ‘showing wrong history’
Vicky Kaushal’s film ‘Chhawa’ is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who took over the Maratha Empire after the death of his father Chhatrapati Shivaji. From 1681 to 1689, Sambhaji led the Marathas and during this time he fought many wars.

In a war of 1687, Sambhaji’s army defeated the Mughal army, but after this war, his military power began to weaken. In this era, there is a history of conspiracies against them. Eventually, the Mughal soldiers managed to catch Sambhaji in Sangameshwar. He was produced before the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb and tortured. The way the Mughal ruler behaved with him and the brutal killing he was killed in the story of ‘Chhava’ has been tried.

In the film, two characters named Ganoji and Kanhoji, Sambhaji Maharaj are shown to be with Aurangzeb. Now the descendants of Maratha warriors Ganoji Shirke and Kanhoji Shirke have opposed the film and have accused the history of presenting the wrong way. According to the Financial Express, Laxmikant King Shirke, the 13th descendant of Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke, has said that his warriors have been shown incorrectly in the film, the depiction is not unurerated and this spoils their image. Many more groups in Maharashtra are also opposing this.

Warning of 100 crores case
The Shirke family has lodged a strong objection to the story shown in ‘Chhava’ and said that their ancestors have been shown unnecessarily negative. On 20 February, the Shirke family sent a legal notice to ‘Chhava’ director Laxman Utekar. The notice has demanded to remove the mistakes related to history by replacing the film’s negativity. The Shirke family has also warned of defamation case of 100 crores against the makers.

Laxman Utekar apologizes
According to the local news portal Pudhari, after receiving the notice, one of the descendants of the Shirke family, Bhushan, has spoken to Shirke personally. He has apologized and said that many steps have been taken to not add direct connection to the characters from the Shirke dynasty in the film. According to reports, Utekar apologized and said, ‘We have mentioned only the names of Ganji and Kanhoji without using surname in’ Chhava ‘. We have also ensured that the name of his village is not mentioned, from where he used to come. Our intention was not to hurt the Shirke family. If ‘Chhava’ has caused any problem, then I apologize to it for this.

Shirke family response on Laxman’s apology
According to the report of Bollywood Hungama, despite Laxman Utekar apologizing, the Shirke family is adamant that there should be improvement in the film.
