Political Controversy: The hearing was held in Hathras Court on Saturday (March 1) on a defamation complaint filed on the statement made on the Hathras case of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. During this, the statement of the complainant was recorded. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled on 24 March.
Advocate Munna Singh Pundir informed that three separate complaints have been filed against Rahul Gandhi. Among them, people named Ram Kumar, Lavkush and Ravi have filed a defamation case. On Saturday (March 1), there was a hearing on the complaint of Ram Kumar in which the court recorded his statement and fixed the next date of the case on 24 March.
Social media posts became the reason for controversy
According to the complainants, despite being acquitted from the court, Rahul Gandhi shared a post on the social media platform ‘X’ in which he alleged that “the rapists are roaming out.” It is alleged that he gave this statement, knowing the fact that the court had freed the three youths from the allegations. After this statement, a legal notice was sent to him.
Rahul Gandhi’s statement again heated up
Significantly, the case of alleged gang rape in Hathras had become a political issue across the country. The case was investigated by SIT, CBI and other agencies. The CBI submitted a 3,200 -page report in the court after which the court acquitted the four accused. However, in December 2023, Rahul Gandhi issued a statement on social media after meeting the victim’s family, which caused the controversy to heated again.
1.5 crore notice in defamation case
Ravi Kumar, Lavkush and Ram Kumar have sent a defamation notice of Rs 1.5 crore to Rahul Gandhi through advocate Munna Singh. In this, Rs 50-50 lakh has been demanded for each complainant. The complainants say that despite being convicted by the court, Rahul Gandhi tried to discredit him, which has tarnished his social image.
