Holashtak 2025: Preparations for the festival of Holi are going on across the country. Holika starts 8 days before Holika Dahan. In the scriptures, the period from Phalgun Shukla Ashtami to Holika Dahan has been called Holashtak. This year Holashtak is going to start from March 7. Auspicious work on Holashtak stops. Let us know what is the importance of the last Holashtak and why auspicious works are forbidden in it.
Mythological recognition of Holashtak
According to the belief of Sanatan tradition, Vishnu devotee Prahlada was tortured a lot from the first eight days of Holi i.e. Purnima. Prahlad was arrested by Hiranyakashyap as Phalgun Shukla Paksha Ashtami. He was tortured in various ways to kill him. It became a tradition to consider those eight days inauspicious. It is said that Prahlad became a trend to celebrate Holashtak since the torture.
To burn Prahlada, Holika took her on her lap and sat in the fire. But due to Devkripa, he himself died, nothing happened to Prahlad. Since then, these eight days are celebrated as Holashtak due to this crisis on the devotee. Auspicious and auspicious works are prohibited during the period of Holashtak.
