The Shravasti police of Uttar Pradesh told a news agency on Tuesday that a person from Ikona area has been registered for an attempt to convert on the pretext of treatment. At present, the accused Harish Singh is absconding. A search operation is being carried out for his arrest.
Police said that Singh had been living in Ludhiana in Punjab for the last few years and often used to visit his Bhagwanpur Bankatwa village of Lonpurwa. Superintendent of Police (SP) Ghanshyam Chaurasia said, “He was recently in the village and was organizing a treatment session in a hut and performing rituals to cure diseases. Most of the attendees were from outside the village.”

Singh was accused of conversion by Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists. A video was also provided by the workers of the council. After which investigation was done by the police.
Chaurasia said that after this, a case has been registered against Singh under Section three and five of the Uttar Pradesh Laws Prevention Prohibition Act, 2021. At present, Singh is expected to flee to Punjab. In such a situation, a team of police will be sent there. At the same time, in view of the proximity of Shravasti from the Nepal border, the authorities are also monitoring the area to prevent its escape across the border.
