Holi significance of Holi
Holika is burnt on the full moon of Phalgun month remembering the victory of good over evil. According to the legend, Prahlada, son of Asura Hiranyakashyap, was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, but Hiranyakashyap did not like this. He assigned the task of disrespecting the child Prahlada from devotion to God, who had a boon that fire could not burn her body. With the aim of killing Bhaktaraja Prahlad, Holika took her in her lap and entered the fire. But as a result of Prahlada’s devotion and the grace of God, Holika herself burnt in the fire. There was no harm to Prahlad’s body in the fire. Since then Holika Dahan is done on the first day of Holi.
