Indian Railways Crowd Management: The Indian Railways will use the successful crowd management model adopted in 2025 to control the huge crowd at railway stations on Holi and other big festivals. Modern arrangements like additional holding area, new footover bridge, CCTV monitoring and digital communication system will be made at 60 major railway stations in the country.
More than 66 crore devotees reached Prayagraj during 45 days in Mahakumbh 2025. During this period, 16780 trains were operated and 5 crore passengers were taken safely to their destination. Prayagraj Railway Division had implemented a special crowd control scheme at 9 railway stations, which prevented incidents like stampede. Now this model will be applied to Holi and other festivals.
Railway’s new plan for crowd control
In a high -level meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, it was decided that special arrangements will be made at 60 stations including Anand Vihar, Surat, Udhna, Patna and New Delhi. SPRO of Prayagraj Railway Division Amit Malviya said that during the festivals, the crowd will be sent in a controlled manner on the platform on the lines of Mahakumbh and monitoring with CCTV cameras for crowd control.
Other than this-
- An additional holding area will be built at the stations, where passengers without reserved tickets will be stopped.
- 20 feet and 40 feet wide footover bridges will be built so that passengers can safely move from one platform to another.
- The railway police and employees will be equipped with a walkie-talkie and announcement system, so that they can control the crowd smoothly.
- The station control tower will be equipped with state -of -the -art technology, so that passengers can be given live updates.
Entry in stations on Holi will be controlled
Indian Railways has issued a guideline to control the crowd during festivals:
- Passengers with reserved tickets will be given admission from separate gate so that they can avoid the crowd and reach the platform directly.
- Passengers without tickets or general category will be stopped in the holding area and sent to the platform when the train arrives.
- The station master will be empowered to control the number of ticket issuance according to the crowd.
- Special ID cards and uniforms will be given to railway employees for identification.
Passengers will get relief on festivals
Indian Railways operates special trains on festivals like Holi, Diwali and Chhath Puja every year, but passengers have to face many problems due to huge crowd and chaos at stations. Incidents of stampede and chaos become common.
This new Mahakumbh model of the railway will give passengers safe and smooth travel during festivals. Now there will be no uncontrolled crowd at the stations, security will be tight and passengers will be able to reach their train without any dislocation.
