Aimim to contest bengal election: Owaisi’s party All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Musslimin (AIMIM) has claimed on Tuesday (March 11, 2025) that the Muslim population of West Bengal has exceeded 40%. The party has announced to contest all the seats in the 2026 assembly elections.
In the press conference, the party raised issues related to Muslims, Dalits and tribals. Spokesperson Imran Solanki said that the party has contested elections in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi and will now contest with full force in Bengal. He said that AIMIM got 60,000 votes in Malda, 25,000 in Murshidabad and 15,000-18,000 votes in the last panchayat elections. This election strategy has been prepared under the direction of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
Raised the issue of Waqf Property
Solanki accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) that the area from Fort William to High Court is Waqf property, which people in power are taking advantage of. He demanded that if the government wants Muslim votes, then it should share information about the accounts of Waqf Board.
Target on TMC and BJP
AIMIM described both TMC and BJP as two sides of the same coin. Solanki said that 90% of Muslim votes could form the TMC government, but it did nothing for the Muslim community. He claims that TMC only takes the support of minorities for electoral gains.
Population and Muslim vote bank of Bengal
Solanki said that the Muslim population has increased since the 2011 census. He claims that the new figures will confirm that the Muslim population in Bengal has exceeded 40%. This announcement of AIMIM can create new equations in West Bengal politics and this can be a big challenge for Mamata Banerjee’s party TMC.
