Bengaluru Water Tariff Hike Bwssb Kaveri Supply Karnataka Government Water Crisis DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru water crisis: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar announced on Friday (March 14) that the state government is planning to increase the water fee in Bengaluru by one paise per liter. He said that no amendment has been made in the water fee since 2014, which is causing a huge loss to the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). The need to increase the fee to meet this deficit is being said.

The Deputy Chief Minister informed that BWSSB had proposed to increase the water fee by seven to eight paise per liter to continue the services related to water supply. However, Shivkumar, describing it as more cumbersome to the general public, suggested that the government is considering only one penny increase. He said that before taking any final decision on this issue, the government will discuss with the MLAs of the city and will also take public opinion.

Demand to speed up Cauvery water supply before summer

Legislative Council Member (MLC) Ramoji Gowda urged the government to expedite the supply of water of Kaveri river to homes keeping in mind the summer season. He told that the water crisis can deepen during summer, so it is necessary to make concrete plans from now on. On this, Shivkumar said that last year was very challenging in terms of water crisis. Around 7,000 borewells had dried up due to which there was a shortage of water and the government had to depend on private water tankers.

Relief to 110 villages from Cauvery fifth phase

Shivkumar said that the government has implemented the projects of ‘Kaveri Fifth Phase’, which is being supplied water to 110 villages in Bangalore and nearby. He assured that the government will take more effective steps to reduce the water crisis in the future. Pipeline and water management facilities are being expanded under this project so that the citizens of Bengaluru can get uninterrupted water supply. At the same time, he said that the government is working towards raising the necessary resources to overcome the water crisis by taking a slight increase in the water crisis and continue the water supply.
