The ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal organized separate programs at Sonchura in East Medinipur district on Friday (March 14, 2025) and paid tribute to the 14 farmers who were killed in police firing during the anti-land acquisition movement in Nandigram on 14 March 2007.
Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Legislative Assembly and BJP MLA from Nandigram Shubhendu Adhikari & lsquo; martyr & rsquo; Went to the memorial built to pay tribute to the farmers. The official said, “I pay tribute to those 14 farmers who were victims of police bullets to protect their land from the occupation of land mafia and Dhannaseths on this day."Text-Align: justify;"> He said, ‘Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee should not take credit for the Nandigram movement. This was the movement of people; This land was a disaster resistance committee (BUPC) that united people. If Nandigram had not happened, Banerjee would not have become the Chief Minister. ‘
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee was a trusted colleague and now her fierce rival officer said that he knows that Mathak Banerjee has only benefited from the anti-land movement. Trinamool leader and BUPC officer S.K. Sufiyan later organized another program at the same site.
A group of Trinamool workers led by Sufiyan reached that place and washed the place under symbolic purification and removed the black flags at the venue. Sufiyan said, ‘Nandigram movement is not of Shubhendu Adhikari and Mamata Banerjee is considered the undisputed leader of farmers beyond Nandigram and Singur.’
He accused the Nandigram police and administration of benefiting the officer and BJP. He gave them extra time to stay at the memorial for more than an hour and thus snatched the time allotted for Trinamool workers and BUPC members.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday paid tribute to the martyred farmers in a post on the social media platform X and expressed his solidarity with the families of 14 deceased farmers of the Land Untrue Resistance Committee (Anti -Land Acquisition Movement).
