Moon mission: V. Narayanan, president of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), announced on Sunday (March 16) that the central government has approved the Chandrayaan-5 mission. This mission will study the surface of the moon deeply and this time a very heavy rover will be sent to the moon. He gave this information at the honor ceremony where he was honored for taking charge as ISRO chief.
Narayanan said that 25 kg weighing rover ‘Pragyan’ was sent to Chandrayaan-3 mission, but in Chandrayaan-5, 250 kg weighing Rover will be sent to the moon. This upgrade will help scientists to study the lunar surface more elaborate and deeply. Apart from this, hundreds of pictures are still available from the high-government camera installed in Chandrayaan-2, which are providing important data for ISRO’s upcoming missions.
Chandrayaan missions journey so far
India’s Chandrayaan Mission started in 2008 with Chandrayaan-1, which achieved significant success in the Moon’s mineral and chemical analysis. After this, the Chandrayaan-2 mission, launched in 2019, was about 98% success. Although Lander Vikram’s landing failed in the final phase, on 23 August 2023, Chandrayaan-3 created history by successfully ‘soft landing’ on the southern pole of the moon.
More big missions in the coming years
Narayanan also informed that the Chandrayaan-4 mission is expected to be launched in 2027, the main objective of which will be to collect samples from the surface of the moon and bring it to the earth. Apart from this, ISRO is also working fast on the scheme of human space mission ‘Gaganyaan’ and India’s first indigenous space station ‘Indian Space Station’.
How will Chandrayaan-4 mission operate?
In September 2024, the Central Government approved the Chandrayaan-4 mission, which will cost Rs 2104 crore. There will be five separate modules under this mission, including an asander, disorder, promotion, transfer and re-entry module. Two separate rockets-Heavy-Lifter LVM-3 and PSLV will be used for its operation. This mission is part of India’s ambitious plan to bring samples from the moon for the first time.
New chapter in India’s space search
Chandrayaan-5 mission can prove to be a new milestone in India’s space search. This 250 kg rover will use more detailed use on the surface of the moon and will provide important scientific data. This mission will not only strengthen India’s scientific capacity but will also make India’s role even more effective in international space exploration.
