After Jahangir’s death, his intestines were buried in India and the rest of the body was taken to Lahore in Pakistan. In this way, the grave of the Mughal ruler Jahangir is present at two places.
Where is Jahangir’s tomb?
Jahangir died on October 28, 1627 between Rajouri and Bhimber (Pakistan administered Kashmir) at the age of 58. At the last time of his life, Jahangir was in Lahore with his wife Nur Jahan, after which both of them decided to go to Kashmir to change Abo-Hawa. Gradually, Jahangir’s health started deteriorating and Jahangir died in Rajouri on 28 October.
It is considered right to be the grave of Jahangir in Lahore. After the death, Jahangir’s remains, especially the intestines, were buried in a temporary grave at Chingus Sarai in Jammu and Kashmir. After removing the intestines, Jahangir’s body was brought to Lahore in a seated position. The tomb of Jahangir is located in Shahdara Bagh on the banks of the Ravi River in Lahore city of Pakistan.
Anarkali’s tomb
You must have heard about the love story of Jahangir (Salim) and Anarkali, but do you know that Salim also built a tomb in memory of Anarkali, which is present in Lahore. Historians have different views regarding Salim and Anarkali. Some historians believe that Anarkali was a member of Emperor Akbar’s Haram. At the same time, some say that Anarkali came from Iran with a caravan of Lahore traders, whose beauty was very much discussed and Salim became crazy in his love.
Anarkali’s death remains a mystery. Many people claim that he was killed by Akbar, while some people believe that Anarkali’s death was natural. It is believed that when Jahangir sat on the throne, he built a mausoleum in Lahore in memory of Anarkali. This tomb was completed in 1615.
Nur Jahan’s Tomb
Nur Jahan’s real name was Mahrunnisa, who was the wife of the Mughal ruler Jahangir. It is said that Nur Jahan is counted as the most powerful women in history. Although Jahangir had many wives, but among all the wives, Jahangir loved Nur Jahan most.
A coin was also issued in the Mughal Sultanate in the name of Nur Jahan. Mughal Queen Nur Jahan died on 17 December 1645 at the age of 68, who was buried at Shahdara Bagh in Lahore.
