Bangladesh on Tulsi Gabbard Remarks: The interim government of Bangladesh has rejected the remarks given by the US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard on the alleged harassment of minority communities. The government says that this statement has been given “without any evidence or concrete allegations”.
In fact, in a statement posted on Facebook at midnight on Monday midnight, the office of Bangladesh Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus said that Gabbard’s comments are “presenting the image of the entire country incorrectly.” Describing Gabbard’s statement on Indian TV channel as “misleading”, the government said that it is going to harm Bangladesh’s reputation. The statement further said that Bangladesh’s traditional Islam practice has always been inclusive and peaceful. The country has made constant progress against extremism and terrorism.
Gabbard allegations and Bangladesh’s response
In an interview given to the Indian channel, Tulsi Gabbard said that “Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and other religious minorities have been harassing, killing and misbehaving for a long time.
Gabbard alleged that the attack on religious minorities in Bangladesh and the threat of Islamic terrorists is associated with the ideology of “Khilafat regime”. He said that talks have started between US President Trump and Bangladesh’s interim government on this issue. However, the Bangladesh government dismissed this statement and said that it is “unfounded and unacceptable” to link the country with the “Islamic Khilafat”. According to the government, this statement damages the hard work of millions of Bangladeshis who have worked for peace, stability and development.
Bangladesh’s status against terrorism
The Bangladesh government clarified that it condemns the claims associated with any kind of “Islamic Khilafat”. The office of the Chief Advisor said that political leaders and public personalities should keep their statements based on facts. The statement also said that Bangladesh has made concrete efforts through law enforcement, social reform and international cooperation to deal with terrorism and extremism. Yunus’s office said, “The interim government of Bangladesh believes in global cooperation against terrorism and extremism and is committed to creative talks based on the sovereignty and safety of all countries.”
