Nagpur violence: More than 50 people have been detained and five FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence in Nagpur city of Maharashtra. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, condemning the Nagpur violence, accused the state government of failing to handle the situation. Jamaat -e -Islami Hind (JIH) vice -president Malik Moatasim Khan said that the Maharashtra government failed to fulfill the situation by understanding the situation and inciting communal violence.
‘Open relaxation to hate -spreaders’
Moatasim Khan said, “It seems that the Maharashtra Police has been told to give open exemption to the anti -social elements that spread hatred. This is causing a peaceful atmosphere in the state and there is a possibility of communal violence.
The Vice President of Jamaat -e -Islami Hind said, “We appeal to the people of Maharashtra, especially the citizens of Nagpur, to maintain peace and do not come under the provocation of anti -social elements. The best answer to such divisive moves is unity and restraint.”
Why violence erupted in Nagpur?
According to the police, violence erupted in Chitnis Park area of ​​Central Nagpur at around 7.30 pm on Monday (17 March 2025), when a rumor spread that a community had been burnt during the agitation on behalf of a right -wing organization demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb (located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district). During this time, the police were stoned, injuring six common citizens and three policemen.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the violence in Nagpur seems to be conspiracy and the mob has targeted selected houses, establishments. Fadnavis said that 33 policemen, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police, were injured in the violence and a senior officer was attacked with an ax. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde claimed that it was a conspiracy to target a particular community.
