Remittans: There was a period when overseas Indians used to earn the most money from Gulf countries and send India but now the situation has changed. Now America and Britain have gone to the forefront of this matter. This has been revealed in a survey by Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The money that is sent by overseas Indians from abroad and sent to its family living in India, it contributes significantly to the development of the country. Earlier, a large number of people from India used to go to Gulf countries to earn money. Most of these numbers were of laborers. In large quantities of Indian people used to send money to their homes after earning in these Muslim countries, but if we look at the recent data, there has been a big decline in the money coming from these countries to India.

It declined to 19.2 percent in 2023-24. Similarly, Saudi Arabia’s stake declined from 11.6 percent to 6.7 percent. At the same time, the part coming from Kuwait also reduced from 6.5 percent to 3.9 percent.

During this time, the money sent by Indian migrants from America to India increased from 22.9 percent to 27.7 percent. The parts coming from Britain also increased from 3.4 percent to 10.8 percent. Similarly, there has been an increase in remedies coming from other Western countries including Canada.

According to statistics, 82,000 workers from Kerala went to Gulf countries in 2014-16, according to data from South India. In 2021-24, this figure was just 60,000. Similarly, the number of people going from Tamil Nadu decreased from 1.3 lakh to 78,000. The number of people going from Telangana to Gulf countries increased to half in these few years. It decreased from 69,000 to 35,000. At the same time, the number of people going from Punjab decreased from 94,000 to 39,000.

However, there is more stay in these Islamic countries from North and Eastern India. In 2014-16, 4 lakh people went from Uttar Pradesh and in 2021-24 also this number remained 4.25 lakhs. Similarly, the number of people going from Bihar was more than 2 lakhs.
