Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed during emergency landing in Kazakhstan. The plane crashed near the coast of the Caspian Sea. According to Reuters report, the plane crashed immediately after the drone attack in southern Russia. Airports in this area have been closed before due to drone attacks. The Russian airport on the plane’s route was also closed on Wednesday morning.
There is speculation in the Russian media that Russia’s air defense had mistakenly targeted the plane, mistaking it for a Ukrainian drone.
A Telegram channel named Fighterbomber has released a video clip, in which huge holes can be seen in the plane. It is being said that such holes are caused only by shelling or explosion.
A post by Flightradar24 said that the plane’s GPS was jammed. Russia has been accused of jamming GPS transmission in the past also.
After this incident, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev interrupted his visit to Russia. He left from St. Petersburg. He said that according to the information I have received, due to bad weather the plane had changed its route between Baku and Gronji. This is a huge tragedy, which has brought suffering to the people of Azerbaijan.
At the same time, Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Officer said within a few hours of the accident that he has started investigating the case.
It is known that Azerbaijan Airlines flight E190AR took off from Baku Airport at 6.28 am local time. The plane was to land at Gronji Airport in Chechnya, Russia after flying for about an hour. However, shortly after the flight it collided with a bird.
In the video viral on social media, the plane was seen moving up and down in the air like fish swimming in water. Flight tracking sites also released a map of the plane’s movement, in which it can be seen how the plane lost control in the air.
It is being told that there were 67 passengers on board the plane, out of which 42 passengers died, and 25 passengers survived. The passengers on board the plane included 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russian citizens, 6 Kazakh citizens and 3 Kyrgyz citizens. There were five crew members on the plane who died, including both pilots.
