On Monday, a minor dispute between two groups took a violent form in Jani area of Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. More than half a dozen people were injured in this clash, although the police have not yet officially confirmed it.
How did the violence erupt?
According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra, there was an argument on a small issue between Nazim and Zahid, who lives in Siwalakhas town on Monday morning. This dispute turned into a growing clash. The situation worsened when both sides came face to face after Eid prayers and started throwing stones at each other. Many people were injured in this incident, who have been admitted to the hospital.
As soon as the incident was reported, the police reached the spot and the situation was controlled. The police have so far detained three people and efforts are being made to identify the remaining accused. The news of firing by some people has also come out, but SP Mishra said that the police is investigating it.
Peace restoration in the area
At present, a heavy police force has been deployed in Jani area to maintain peace. The police administration has appealed to the local people to maintain peace. Meanwhile, the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated peacefully in the rest of the district. A large number of devotees arrived at the royal Idgah to offer prayers and congratulated each other.
District Magistrate V.K. Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada and other administrative officials patrolled the city and took stock of the situation.
