Manmohan Singh Death: Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh died on Thursday (26 December) night at AIIMS, Delhi. He breathed his last at 9.51 pm. He was the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Manmohan Singh entered politics in the year 1991 when on June 21, P.V. He was made the Finance Minister in Narasimha Rao’s government. At that time the country was facing a serious economic crisis.

National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NAREGA)
The Government of India implemented the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NAREGA) in 2005. Later its name was changed to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The objective of this scheme is to provide employment in rural areas, so that poverty alleviation and economic improvement can occur. Under this, rural people get employment for 100 days in a year.
Right to Information Act (RTI)
In 2005, the Manmohan Singh government passed an act, after which citizens got the right to seek information from public authorities. This act was named the Right to Information Act (RTI). This Act brought transparency in the work of people sitting in the government and their accountability could also be fixed.
Aadhaar facility
Dr. Manmohan had started Aadhaar while being the PM. To create this, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was formed in 2009. Its objective was to provide the citizens of India with an identity certificate which could be easily used everywhere.
India-US nuclear deal
India-US civil nuclear agreement is one of the biggest achievements of Dr. Manmohan. After this agreement, India got exemption from the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). Apart from this, the country got permission to separate its civilian and military nuclear programs. Only after this agreement, India got permission to import uranium from those countries which have this technology.
Direct Benefit Transfer
Dr. Manmohan Singh had implemented the Direct Benefit Transfer system. The objective of this scheme is to establish a system to transfer subsidies directly to the people through their linked bank accounts. Today lakhs of people in the country are taking advantage of it.
