Former Prime Minister of the country Dr. Manmohan Singh is no more. He breathed his last at Delhi AIIMS on Thursday night. He was born in Gah village of Punjab in undivided India. His family had settled in Amritsar, Punjab at the time of partition.

Dr. Manmohan Singh had chosen Hindu College to do pre-college after 10th. In September 1948 he enrolled in college and stood first. The then Principal Sant Ram honored him with Roll Call of Honour.
He was the first student to be honored with this award. This incident was narrated by Dr. Manmohan Singh himself during the alumni meet and convocation organized at Hindu College in 2018. Dr. Manmohan Singh had said that only teachers can recognize the unique power of a student.
He had told that after the advice of his teachers, he had taken admission in BA Honors in Economics. Became a topper once again in 1952. Dr. Manmohan Singh met his former principal Sant Ram, Prof. Mast Ram, Prof. SR Kalia, Dr. Jugal Kishore Trikha and Dr. Sudarshan Had called Kapoor his hero.

Dr. Manmohan Singh reached Hindu College in the year 2018, 65 years after the completion of the college. In this college, he acquired knowledge by listening to the lectures of teachers for almost 4 years from 1948 to 1952. During this time, many of his classmates had also reached the college, who narrated many stories to Dr. PK Sharma, who was the Principal in 2018.
Manmohan used to express his thoughts in less words Advocate Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman of DAV Local Managing Committee, who was the batchmate of Dr. Manmohan Singh, had told that he was a part of the debate team of the college for 3 years. Dr. Manmohan had a style of speaking and influencing others from the very beginning.
In debate, he used to express his views in very few words and calmly. That thing was so impressive that no one could stop themselves from giving him the first prize. Dr. Manmohan used to spend most of his time in the library. Whenever he would sit together, there would be talk about films and actresses, but he would feel shy after hearing these things.

Kapoor said- It was not easy to call him Manmohan Dr. Sudarshan Kapoor told that Dr. Manmohan had called him to his residence in Delhi. He used to call him Doctor Sahib, on which his wife Gursharan Kaur interrupted him. He said that you are a friend. Why don’t they call him Manmohan? Every time he is called Doctor Sahib.
On this he had said that it is not easy to say Manmohan while sitting in front of the person in front of whom he is now sitting. Doctor Sahib itself comes out of the mouth. In this meeting he met all his friends and Prof. Jain, Prof. Trikha and Prof. Had also remembered Jai Gopal.
Faster in studies from the beginning, college used to charge half the fees According to college records, Dr. Manmohan’s roll number was 19 and serial number was 1420. He was so fast in studies that half of his fees were waived. His subjects in graduation were Economics, Political Science and Punjabi. He later rose to the position of world renowned economist and Prime Minister of the country.
Used to include 3 triangles in signature His classmate Ram Prakash Saroj had told the then principal that Dr. Manmohan Singh’s signature was unique. He used to make triangles at 3 places. The first is Manmohan’s M, the second is S and the third is Singh’s G.
After paying obeisance at the Golden Temple in 2018, Dr. Manmohan Singh had written this message on the visitor register. He wrote that visiting the Golden Temple is a real pleasure.
Pro. Kalia reached Delhi, when he came to know he came running himself. Classmate Sudarshan Bhaskar, retired senior lecturer from the University of East London, shared an anecdote with Principal Dr PK Sharma. He told that Dr. Manmohan was the Economic Secretary in the Finance Department. College Prof. Kalia reached Delhi to meet him. As soon as Dr. Singh came to know of his arrival, he left all his work and ran towards the reception and himself welcomed Dr. Kalia.
Dr. Manmohan Singh became emotional remembering his two classmates and had said in his speech that when he was studying in Hindu College, D. Bachindra Goswami and Raj Kumar Patharia were also there. He also raised the name of India in the world.
Apart from this, the name of another alumni of Hindu College, Satinder Loomba, was taken. He said that when he was Prime Minister, Satinder Loomba was his advisor. He was happy to know that Satinder Loomba was also a part of Hindu College.

In the year 2018, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had reached the Golden Temple with his wife Gursharan Kaur.
After paying obeisance at the Golden Temple, Manmohan Singh also took Kadha Prasad.
Dr. Manmohan Singh and his wife were honored by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) with a picture of Siropa and Darbar Sahib.
