Madhya Pradesh Corruption Case: Flaws have come to light in the investigation of Lokayukta in the ongoing corruption case against a former constable of Madhya Pradesh Transport Department. According to court documents, the Lokayukta had claimed to have seized Rs 28.5 lakh in cash, jewelery worth more than Rs 5 lakh and silver worth Rs 21 lakh. However, earlier the Lokayukta had claimed seizure of Rs 7.98 crore, which has increased the possibility of possible negligence or deliberate misleading in this case.
According to the report of NDTV, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started investigation of money laundering in this case. ED collected many important evidences during raids in Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur. In particular, the Lokayukta team raided the main house and office of Constable Sharma, but his second house and the residence of his associate Sharad Jaiswal remained untouched by the investigation.
Gold, cash and documents recovered in ED investigation
During investigation, an Innova car was found, which was believed to contain 52 kg of gold and Rs 11 crore in cash. He could not be caught yet. This car was later found abandoned in the forest. Apart from this, another vehicle parked near Sharma’s office was also ignored in which ED found important documents.
Income Tax Department’s investigation exposes Sharma’s big corruption
Sharma had joined as a constable on compassionate appointment after the death of his father in 2015. After voluntary retirement in 2023, he invested the money earned from corruption in real estate, schools and hotels. The Income Tax Department’s investigation also revealed that Sharma had links with officials of the Transport Department spread across 52 districts, in which transactions worth more than Rs 100 crore were detected.
Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has demanded a judicial inquiry into this matter. He wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the ED and Income Tax Department to conduct an investigation. While emphasizing on the government’s anti-corruption commitment, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said, “We are fighting against corruption at every level.”
