New Delhi. Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has decided to retire from Test cricket. If India does not reach the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final, then he can bid goodbye to his cricket career in Sydney after the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit Sharma has not been able to score runs in Test cricket in the last few series. In the current Test series against Australia, he has scored only 31 runs in 3 matches.
According to Times of India, discussions are going on between the top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the selectors regarding Rohit’s place in the team. The report says that the captain will try to convince the selectors to let him play if India reaches the WTC final. However, the chances of this happening are less, so this could be his last match in Sydney.
Rohit’s test career on the decline
Captain Rohit Sharma’s game is continuously going downwards in Test cricket. Team India faced a clean sweep in the 3-match series against New Zealand at home. In the 3 matches of this series, only 91 runs were scored from the captain’s bat. In the current series, India has played three matches under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and lost two. He has scored only 31 runs in 5 innings of 3 matches. He has scored 3, 6, 10, 3 and now 9 runs. Rohit Sharma’s bat did not score even 15 runs.
