New Delhi. Australia’s 19-year-old Sam Costans made his debut against the Indian team in the fourth test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. During this match, he troubled the Indian bowlers a lot by batting explosively. On the first day of the Boxing Day Test, Virat Kohli did such an act with this young batsman which surprised all the Indian greats. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan and former opener Sunil Gavaskar reprimanded him for this.
In the first day’s play of the Boxing Day Test match, Australia scored 311 runs for 6 wickets. The top four batsmen scored fifties, including Test debutant Sam Costance. This young man defeated the Indian bowlers in the first hour of play itself. Even a big hit like Jasprit Bumrah was hit fours and sixes. During the match, Virat Kohli got into a tussle with this 19 year old youth. After the end of the day’s play, the match referee fined him 20 percent of the match fee for this. After the end of the 10th over, Virat hit Sam.
Irfan and Gavaskar angry at Virat
Irfan Pathan reacted to Virat Kohli’s actions after the end of the first day’s play. There was no need to do this, he said. During the match, players stare at each other, try to scare and provoke them by going near them, but ICC rules do not allow hitting. What Virat Kohli did is very wrong. How can you do this to a 19-year-old who is playing his first match. Just think about one thing, if an Australian player had done this to a young Indian debutant…
Sunil Gavaskar said, I do not understand at all why Virat Kohli did this. There was no need to do this kind of thing. Slinging is okay and even provoking a batsman is okay but hitting is not good.
