Cold winds and dense fog continue in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In many parts of these states, there is fog in the morning and night, due to which road and rail traffic is being affected. The effect of cold is being felt especially in rural areas.
There is severe cold in Haryana and Punjab. The minimum temperature in Narnaul, Haryana fell to 4.5 degrees Celsius while areas like Hisar and Sirsa also experienced cold. The temperature in Bathinda, Punjab has been recorded up to 5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 9.4 degrees Celsius.
Due to northern winds the cold has increased significantly in Rajasthan. In areas like Jaipur, Ajmer, Sikar, and Udaipur, visibility has reduced due to dense fog in the morning. The minimum temperature in Jaipur was recorded below 10 degrees Celsius while in other districts the cold wave affected life.
There is a possibility of a drop of three to five degrees in temperature in Jharkhand in the coming days. Dense fog and dry weather is expected in the northern parts of the state. New Year was welcomed in Ranchi and surrounding areas amidst cold winds.
The effect of cold wave continues in western Uttar Pradesh. Cold has increased in areas like Meerut, Agra, and Saharanpur. There is fog in the morning and evening due to which normal life has been affected.
There is an effect of fog in most parts of North India including Delhi. Due to dense fog, visibility in the morning is decreasing, which is affecting traffic. According to the weather department, fog will persist for the next few days.
Life is being badly affected due to the biting cold. School holidays have been extended and people are trying to escape the cold with the help of bonfires and warm clothes.
