The Uttar Pradesh government has got another major legal victory from the Supreme Court. The petition filed by his son Omar Ansari to demand an inquiry into the death of the infamous mafia and former MLA Mukhtar Ansari has been rejected by the Supreme Court. Omar Ansari had demanded the court to register an FIR for the death of Mukhtar in jail and the formation of the SIT (Special Investigation Team), which was rejected by the Supreme Court “not as an interfering”.
This decision is another confirmation from the Yogi government’s anti -mafia campaign from the judiciary. The state government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is constantly tightening the grip on criminals. This decision of the court is being seen as a major validity of the government’s policy against organized crime.
Mukhtar Ansari and his criminal history
Mukhtar Ansari’s name has been one of the most notorious criminals of Uttar Pradesh. Mukhtar, a resident of Mohammadabad in Ghazipur district, had more than 65 cases including murder, kidnapping, extortion, forcibly recovery, gangster act and NSA. Mukhtar Ansari, active since the 1980s, stepped into the world of organized crime and later also made politics his weapon.
Major cases registered against him include serious crimes like Krishnanand Rai murder case, jailer murder case and Rugta murder case. He had been sentenced in eight cases from various courts in Uttar Pradesh so far. In two of these cases, life imprisonment was imprisoned and in the remaining 5 to 10 years.
Death died during treatment in jail
Mukhtar Ansari died on 28 March 2024 during treatment in Banda Jail. His son had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, describing this death as suspicious, but now the court has made it clear that the matter is not eligible for investigation or intervention.
Yogi government supports ‘zero tolerance policy’
This decision clearly shows that the ‘zero tolerance’ policy adopted by the Yogi government against crime and criminals is getting the support of not only the public but also the judiciary. Due to the strong lobbying and prosecution of the state government, many mafia leaders have been punished so far.
This decision is also a proof that Uttar Pradesh has now become a strict adherence to the law, not a safe haven of mafia. The court’s remarks that this is not an interfering case, it has become an example of judicial trust on the functioning of the government.
