The central government has announced to conduct caste census in the country. It has been decided to get it done with the census. After this announcement, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held an important press conference on Tuesday and welcomed the government’s decision. However, he also put some important demands before the government.

Rahul Gandhi said, “We had clearly stated in Parliament that caste census will be done and will end the limit of 50 percent reservation. Now that the central government has announced to conduct caste census, we support it. But we also want to know when this census will be done.”

He further said, “We agree with Modi ji that there are only four castes in the country. (Poor, middle class, rich and very rich), but caste figures are necessary to know who stands within these four. Caste census is the first step, but we have to move forward.”

Four big demands of Congress-

-Center government should declare its timeline as soon as possible: Rahul Gandhi said that the government should clarify when and how the census will be done.

-The advice to adopt Telangana model: He suggested that the central government should adopt fast, transparent and inclusive caste survey models like the Telangana government.

-50% of the reservation limit removal again Rahul Gandhi reiterated that it would be necessary to remove the current constitutional limit of 50 percent reservation on the basis of caste data so that an equitable stake can be ensured.

-Reservation should be implemented in private educational institutions: Rahul Gandhi said that reservation should be implemented in private institutions like government institutions. Social justice should not be limited to government jobs only, but equal opportunities should also be ensured in the private sector.

Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party will help the government fully in designing the caste census. He said, “This was our vision and we support it.
