West Bengal pet ownership survey 21st livestock census pet dogs cats and domesticated animals

West Bengal Animal Survey: In West Bengal, pet animals are being counted under the 21st Animal Census campaign being run by the Central Government. This census is conducted every five years across the country and includes pet dogs and cats as well as other pets. However, some pet owners in Kolkata and its suburbs are trying to hide their beloved animals during the census, making it challenging for officials to complete the survey.

Many pet owners believe that because of this survey they will be burdened with extra tax. Especially the owners of pet dogs are expressing their concern that after this survey, there may be a possibility of some new tax being imposed on them. For this reason they are trying to hide their animals so that their names do not appear in this survey.

West Bengal extended the census time

To deal with this challenge, the state Animal Resources Development Department has sought help from local municipal corporations and urban bodies. Officials say that they are getting cooperation from municipal corporations to overcome this hesitation of pet owners. Apart from this, Utpal Kumar Karmakar, Managing Director of Animal Development Corporation of West Bengal, said that the time to complete the census has been extended till February, so that the officials can get more time.

State and Municipal Corporation together engaged in census

The census was earlier planned to be completed by December 31, but now it has been extended till February. Officials of the State Animal Resources Department have started work in collaboration with Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation to successfully complete this census. Under this, owners of pet dogs and cats will be contacted so that there is no hindrance in the survey.
