8 Pakistani nationals sentenced 20 years for heroin smuggling Gujarat coast NDPS Court conviction ann

Gujarat Drug Trafficking: A special NDPS court sentenced eight Pakistani nationals to 20 years in jail for possessing and transporting 232 kg of heroin in a boat intercepted off the Gujarat coast in 2015. This matter was very serious, because it was connected to a big network of drug smuggling. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on all the culprits, which shows the seriousness of this crime. This decision was given by Special Judge Shashikant E. Bangar on Wednesday (January 1). Although the detailed order has not been made available yet, the decision is being seen as a strong action against drug smuggling.

In 2015, India’s Coast Guard intercepted a boat off the Gujarat coast in which 232 kg of heroin was being brought. According to the information, a total of eight Pakistani citizens were aboard this boat. Prosecution said that there were 11 drums in the boat in which 20 plastic pouches were found. There was wheatish brown powder inside it. After investigation it was confirmed that this powder was heroin. Apart from this, three satellite phones, GPS navigation charts and other electronic equipment were also recovered from the boat.

Those guilty of drug smuggling get 20 years imprisonment

The NDPS court in October 2017 had rejected the bail pleas of eight Pakistani nationals as huge quantities of drugs were recovered from them, indicating a serious crime in the smuggling case. The prosecution had demanded from the court to give maximum punishment to these culprits so that this case becomes an example for other drug smugglers and a message can be given of strict action against such crimes. The court sentenced all the culprits to 20 years’ imprisonment, which is being seen as a strong message given by the justice system in trafficking cases.
