Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent a total of ₹ 258 crore on 38 foreign tours made from May 2022 to December 2024. Among them, the US visit to June 2023 was the most expensive, which cost ₹ 22.89 crore. This information was given by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Magherita in a written reply in Rajya Sabha
According to data given by the government, spending on foreign travelers:
- September 2024: ₹ 15.33 crore on a trip to America
- May 2023: ₹ 17.19 crore on visit to Japan
- December 2024: ₹ 80 lakh on Kuwait trip
- 2024: ₹ 14.36 crore on visit to Italy
- 2024: ₹ 5.34 crore on a trip to Russia
- 2024: ₹ 10.10 crore on a trip to Poland
PM traveled to 38 countries in three years These tours consisted of major countries such as America, Japan, Germany, France, Russia, Italy, Poland, Brazil, Greece, Australia, Egypt and South Africa. The government also presented some figures before 2014:
- 2011: ₹ 10.74 crore on a trip to America
- 2013: ₹ 9.95 crore on a trip to Russia
- 2011: ₹ 8.33 crore on a trip to France
- 2013: ₹ 6.02 crore on a trip to Germany
Opposition raised questions on expenses Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge sought information from the government on the expenses, hotels, transports and other arrangements incurred by Embassy during these tours. The government says that these trips are necessary to strengthen India’s diplomacy and international relations.
