During the rally of actor and political leader Vijay on Saturday in Karur district of Tamil Nadu, at least 39 people were killed in a stampede, including 9 children. At the same time, more than 50 people have been injured. Karur is about 400 km from Chennai.

Police said that the organizers had sought a ground for about 10,000 people, but about 27,000 people attended the rally. DGP (in-charge), G. Venkataraman, told ANI that the crowd in the previous TVK rallies was relatively less, but this time more people came from the estimate.

Stampede in huge crowd
Vijay started a speech on his campaign vehicle, when there was chaos in the crowd. People started fainting and many fell. Many women and children were also injured. Vijay stopped his speech in the middle, gave water bottles to the injured and appealed to the police for help.
State government responded
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that 39 people have been killed so far, including 13 men, 17 women, 4 boys and 5 girls. Apart from this, 51 people, in which 26 men and 25 women are undergoing treatment in intensive treatment.
The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased. Minister Ma to monitor relief and medical arrangements. Subramanian has been appointed.
What did Vijay say?
DGP Venkataraman said that the exact reasons for the accident will be revealed only after investigation. A One-Man Commission has been created for this. Vijay wrote on social media: “My heart is broken. I am in great pain and mourning. My deep condolences to my brothers and sisters in Karur. I pray for the early recovery of people undergoing treatment in the hospital.”
