The Aam Aadmi Party, which has taken power for three consecutive times in Delhi, has lost in this time assembly elections. With the entry in the AAP electoral politics from the Anna movement, Delhi was in power in 2013. After this, the brand Kejriwal in Delhi became stronger in 2015 by winning historic 67 seats and 62 seats in 2020. Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal projected himself as a staunch honest leader and this bet was also effective. However, at the end of the second term, the allegations of corruption against the top leaders of the party damaged this image and the story of AAP’s defeat had been written after Arvind Kejriwal’s going to jail just before the election.
Jail on charges of corruption
From Satyendra Jain to Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal, on the charge of liquor scam and money laundering, the election changed. Earlier it was believed that Kejriwal, who resigned from jail, would redeem the issue in the election, because he had made Atishi the Chief Minister of Delhi just before the election, so that he himself could contest the election with an impeccable image. However, the BJP redeemed this issue during campaigning and projected Kejriwal’s image with ‘hardcore honest’. Kejriwal also left the decision of his image during the election campaign and said that if we are honest, then send us to the assembly.

One of the reasons for public outrage, despite all the allegations of corruption on Kejriwal, is believed to be on the Delhi Chief Minister’s chair. Kejriwal did not resign from the post of CM even after spending more than 150 days in jail and even when he resigned, he had decided his name for the post of CM in the next election. Announcing to quit the post of Chief Minister, she made Atishi as CM just before the election and Atishi also continued to call herself a temporary CM so that Kejriwal’s claim on the chair was strong.
Anger over liquor shops
Allegations of corruption on leaders and the issue of liquor sale in Delhi, besides jail, made a big impact among the public. Especially women showed resentment about liquor shops. The team of Aajtak.in’s team’s special election program ‘Delhi Boli’ also spoke to voters in every assembly of the capital, where anger was clearly visible among the people about liquor shops. The BJP also targeted the Kejriwal government fiercely on the issue of liquor and accused them of getting the youth addicted to them. This issue has also worked to harm Kejriwal’s image in the election.
Yamuna could not become clean
Apart from this, the cleanliness of Yamuna became a big election issue in Delhi. In the last phase of campaigning, Kejriwal’s BJP government of Haryana was alleging poisoning the water of Yamuna. Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini came to Delhi and drank Yamuna water at Ghat and accused Kejriwal of serving lies. Kejriwal had also accepted the matter of not being able to clean Yamuna in his election meetings and sought a chance from the public for the third time for this work. But the work that the Kejriwal government could not do in the last two terms, will do it in the third time, there was doubt among the voters and people have also said this on camera.
BJP redeemed the issue of ‘Sheeshamahal’
The issue of ‘Sheesmahal’ was also raised loudly by the BJP in the election. The party alleged that when the people of Delhi were facing the deadly wave of Korona, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was getting crores of curtains in his government residence. The issue of ‘Sheeshamahal’ damaged Kejriwal’s ‘Aam Aadmi’ image and BJP also raised the issue among the people continuously during the election. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while speaking in Parliament a day before the election, had said that nowadays the focus of some leaders is on making Jakuji and stylish shower in homes, but our focus is on providing water every house.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier said that while giving the slums of Delhi to the slums of Delhi, while giving ‘self -respecting apartment’, Modi never built a house for himself, but in the last 10 years, the houses of more than four crore poor and their dreams have been fulfilled. . I could also make a rosemary. In the entire election of Delhi, Sheeshmahal politics was constantly heated, which also had to bear the brunt of Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party.
Questions on the functioning of MCD
Despite the entry of AAP in the power of MCD, the public could not get relief from the problems of Delhi’s roads, sewer, garbage and clean water. Our team also saw the public struggling with these issues on the ground because for the common people, more important than national issues, the road and clean water coming from the tap of the house matters. The election of Delhi was also fought on these local issues, which is why the Kejriwal government is suffering from not getting these problems in the 10 -year tenure.
Alleged assault with Swati Maliwal
The case of alleged assault with the party’s female MP Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister’s residence can also be held responsible for the AAP defeat in the election. Swati Maliwal had directly accused Kejriwal of assaulting Kejriwal and she continued to raise the issue even in the midst of elections, while Kejriwal herself never spoke openly on the issue. The BJP also caught this issue and promoted Kejriwal as anti -women. After the results, Swati Maliwal has described it as the defeat of Kejriwal’s ego.
Older colleagues missed together
The rebellion of Kejriwal’s old colleagues like Swati Maliwal and Kailash Gehlot also became a problem for the party. Some party MLAs joined the BJP just before the election and damaged the AAP. During the movement, the separation of Kumar Vishwas and Yogendra Yadav from the party during the movement also questions Kejriwal’s working style. Speaking on the election results, Kumar Vishwas also said that Kejriwal has crushed the dreams of crores of workers to fulfill his personal ambitions.
Apart from the anti -incumbency wave, Kejriwal also suffered defeat due to all these issues. The anger of the public about AAP was such that BJP’s Pravesh Verma defeated Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi assembly seat by about 4 thousand votes. Apart from this, former ministers Satyendra Jain and Manish Sisodia, who went to jail, also lost the election from their seats. Senior leaders like Saurabh Bhardwaj and Somnath Bharti, who were ministers in the AAP government, have also suffered this time.

In the results of Delhi, BJP has won 48 out of 70 assembly seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party has been reduced to 22 seats. At the same time, the Congress, which has lost its land in Delhi, has not won a single seat for the third consecutive time. Now everyone’s eyes are in the name of the next CM of Delhi because BJP contested this election without announcing the CM candidate.
