Indian Railway is continuously expanding in the facilities of its passengers and now Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has made a big announcement that 150 new passenger trains will be run in the country soon. These will especially facilitate railway passengers traveling short distance. Along with this, work is also in full swing towards modern upgrading passenger trains being run by already run and 1200 extra coaches have been added to them.
Extension of passenger train network
A major announcement has been made by the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav with the aim of making the short distance rail journey even more in India. The Union Minister revealed the government’s plan to have significant expansion and modernization in passenger train networks across the country. He said that 100 new main line electric multiple units (MEMU) and 50 additional Namo Bharat Trains will be started soon.
Ashwini Vaishnav has made this announcement while launching India’s largest speed power multimodal cargo terminal at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar Siding in Haryana. It has been developed under PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The purpose of this terminal is to increase the efficiency of freight by integrating rail and road logistics uninterruptedly.
12 not 20 coaches will be MEMU train
Focusing on the increasing demand for a short distance train journey, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the 100 new MEMU trains are being prepared in this expansion will be 16 and 20 coaches. Current Memu trains are usually being operated with 8 or 12 coaches. He said that the purpose of this step is to make more passengers travel as well as make regional connectivity easier. Along with this, a new ticketing system is also being implemented by removing problems related to taking train tickets. The Railway Minister expressed hope that these modern Memu will improve a significant improvement in short distance travel and travel in different parts of the country.
50 Namo Bharat AC trains will also run
After the positive response received by the first two trains Namo Bharat AC Trains started between Ahmedabad-Bhuj and Patna-Jayanagar, the government is now planning to start 50 and Namo Bharat AC trains. According to the Railway Minister, these trains are getting very good response from passengers and passengers will get comfortable AC rail travel options for more areas along with adding 50 new AC trains.
Extension of general coaches continues
Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with the announcement of new trains, also spoke about the ongoing railway campaign to increase unreserved travel facilities. He said that last year, the Railways have added more than 1,200 general coaches in the currently operated trains, which meet the needs of railway passengers dependent on affordable travel. Apart from this, he said that this has helped in managing the crowd at railway stations in peak-time and improving the situation for the common man.
