The CBI Special Court on Monday sentenced in a fake encounter case in 1993 in Tarn Taran, Punjab. The court sentenced 5 police officers including retired SSP Bhupendrajit Singh, retired DSP Davinder Singh to life imprisonment.

All these were prosecuted under sections 302 and 120-B of the murder and criminal conspiracy i.e. IPC. Earlier, 10 policemen were accused in this case, but 5 died during the trial.

In 1993, 7 youths died in encounter The case is in 1993, in which 7 youth were shown dead in 2 different encounters. While 4 special police officers (SPOs) were posted as the post of police. The culprits picked up the youth from their homes on 27 June 1993 and kept illegal custody for several days and persecuted them.

FIRs of two separate fake police encounters were lodged in police station Vairowal and police station Sahrali at Tarn Taran. 7 youths were killed in fake encounter. The case was handed over to the CBI after the Supreme Court’s order of 12 December 1996.
